The process is actually pretty simple.

When purchasing Multi Pass, you’ll select your starting park and make your three pre-arrival reservations there. Once you scan into your first Lightning Lane attraction, you can begin booking Lightning Lane reservations at any other park you plan to visit that day, as long as you have a Park Hopper ticket.

For example, if you start your morning at Animal Kingdom and plan to hop to Hollywood Studios in the afternoon, you’ll make all three of your advance selections for Animal Kingdom. After scanning in at your first attraction, you can begin reserving Lightning Lanes at Hollywood Studios.

Hot Tip: If you know you’ll be park hopping later in the day, try to schedule your first reservation as early as possible. Sometimes the least popular rides are the best to do this with. Scanning in earlier unlocks your ability to start booking at the second park sooner, giving you a better chance of snagging popular rides and return times.

Biggest Mistakes with Multi Pass

Disney has certainly made Lightning Lane Multi Pass easier to understand than previous versions of the system, but it’s still easy to get tripped up. Avoid these common mistakes when planning your park day:

Book as soon as your booking window opens

Book your Lightning Lane selections as soon as your booking window opens at 7:00am ET. High in-demand rides disappear quickly and waiting even a few minutes could leave you with undesirable return times or no availability at all.

Understand the tier system

Remember that your initial three selections must follow the tier rules. Once you scan into your first Lightning Lane reservation, those restrictions disappear and you can book any available attraction.

Keep checking for better return times

Not happy with your return window? Keep checking back often! Guests constantly modify or cancel their reservations, so earlier times often become available throughout the day.

Avoid overlapping dining reservations

Try not to schedule dining reservations during your Lightning Lane return window. If it happens though, don’t worry! Enjoy your meal first and then head to the ride afterward. Disney Cast Members can often assist if your reservation overlaps, but it is easier to try and avoid the conflict altogether.

Skip Multi Pass on low-crowd days

On slower days, or at less crowded parks like Animal Kingdom, you may not get enough value from Multi Pass to justify the cost.

Don’t waste Lightning Lane on easy rope drop attractions

Use your Lightning Lane selections for attractions that build long waits later in the day. If you plan to rope drop, take advantage of those short morning wait times instead of using one of your advance selections. This might not apply if your family sleeps in, but don’t underestimate how much you can get done first thing in the morning.

<img decoding="async" width="600" height="800" data-src="https://makeaplan.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Disney-with-Newborn-10.webp" alt="Lightning Lane Multi Pass Biggest Mistakes" class="wp-image-7784 lazyload" data-srcset="https://makeaplan.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Disney-with-Newborn-10.webp 600w, https://makeaplan.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Disney-with-Newborn-10-225x300.webp 225w" data-sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" src="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==" style="--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; In 2024, Disney retired Genie+ and replaced it with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. The updated system also includes Lightning Lane Single Pass for select headliner attractions and Lightning Lane Premier Pass for guests who want maximum flexibility.

Is Lightning Lane worth it?

It depends! If your goal is to experience as many attractions as possible in one day, then Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a great way to maximize your time while minimizing waits. If you visit Disney frequently or are traveling on a budget, you can absolutely enjoy the parks without purchasing it.

Can I park hop?

Yes, you can! If you aren’t happy with your return time, you can modify your reservation or keep checking throughout the day for better availability. Guests frequently change their plans, so earlier return windows often become available.

Can I book more than three rides?

Before your park day, you can only hold your initial three Lighting Lane reservations. Once you scan into your first Lightning Lane, you can continue to book attractions throughout the day, one at a time, as long as there is availability. But, you can only hold three reservations at one time.

Prior to arrival, you can only book one Tier 1 attraction and two Tier 2 attractions (or all 3). Once you scan in though, there are no more tier restrictions.

What’s the difference between Multi Pass and Single Pass?

Multi Pass covers the majority of the rides in the park and allows you to continue making reservations throughout the day. Lightning Lane Single Pass, however, is purchased separately for select headliner attractions that aren’t included with Multi Pass.

Can I use Rider Switch?

Absolutely!
