CHEESESTEAK SLOPPY JOES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n6 hoagie rolls<\/li>\n\n\n\n 1 lb lean ground beef<\/li>\n\n\n\n 1 medium onion, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n 1 medium green pepper, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n 2 Tbsp. butter<\/li>\n\n\n\n 2 cups sliced mushrooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n 2 Tbsp. flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n \u00bc – \u00bd cup light cream<\/li>\n\n\n\n \u00bc – \u00bd cup beef broth<\/li>\n\n\n\n 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n Spices: Salt, pepper, rosemary, basil, oregano, chili powder, all spice (just a pinch)<\/li>\n\n\n\n 3 slices pepper jack cheese (or \u00bd cup grated)<\/li>\n\n\n\n Optional Topping: Hot sauce and jalapenos<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n*Please note I make these with love, meaning all measurements are approximate<\/em>. For the spices, I use between \u00bd tsp \u2013 1 tsp and adjust for flavor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nINSTRUCTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\nBrown ground beef in a large skillet. Add salt and pepper to season. Once the beef has browned, add in chopped onions and green peppers to soften.<\/li>\n\n\n\n While meat is browning, melt butter in medium sauce pan. Once melted, add sliced mushrooms. Cook until browned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n Add flour to mushrooms until coated. Slowly add in cream and broth, stirring constantly until desired consistency is reached. If you wish to skip making homemade mushroom soup, you can always use it from a can.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\nAdd your mushroom soup to the meat mixture. Add cheese on top, allow to melt and mix in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n Add the beef mixture to the hoagie rolls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n Serve with potato chips on the side.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\nI love this recipe for a quick and easy meal to make. It reminds me of a creamy Philly cheesesteak which is one of my favorite sandwiches. As someone who hates doing dishes, this meal thankfully only uses two pans, which make for an easy clean up. If you follow the original recipe, it uses canned cream of mushroom soup which could save you cleaning one extra pan if that is preferred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The only thing I felt was missing was something that gave it a little \u201cpop\u201d. I\u2019m always looking for that secret ingredient to give a meal some depth and flavor. I think this could use some hot sauce or fresh jalapenos on top to give it some spicy crunch. I also saw someone else\u2019s recommendation on the original recipe to toast the hoagie buns with butter, which could help with flavor. I would be curious to try these on two slices of Texas toast next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, I will definitely be adding these to my rotation of quick meals to make on a busy night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
