Chicken Pot Pie (PA Dutch Style)
This classic Pennsylvanian Dutch recipe is a chicken soup with homemade noodles.
Homemade Noodles
- 2 cup flour divided
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 Tbsp. butter softened
- 1/4 tsp. salt divided
Chicken Pot Pie
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 1/2 cup peas & carrots frozen
- 1 onion chopped
- 2-3 stalks celery chopped
- 8 oz. mushrooms chopped
- 1/3 cup flour
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. rosemary
- 2 tsp. thyme
- 1/2 Tbsp. basil
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
Chicken Pot Pie
In a large stock pot, melt the butter and add in onions and mushrooms. Allow to cook low and slow until browned.
Add in celery, peas, and carrots, cooking until tender.
Sprinkle flour over vegetables and lightly stir.
Add in remaining ingredients and bring broth to a rolling boil.
Drop noodles in one at a time to avoid clumping. Continue to cook for 5-6 minutes.
Serve warm and spritz with lemon juice (optional).
