Chicken Pot Pie (PA Dutch Style)
This classic Pennsylvanian Dutch recipe is a chicken soup with homemade noodles.
Homemade Noodles
- 2 cup flour divided
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 Tbsp. butter softened
- 1/4 tsp. salt divided
Chicken Pot Pie
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 1/2 cup peas & carrots frozen
- 1 onion chopped
- 2-3 stalks celery chopped
- 8 oz. mushrooms chopped
- 1/3 cup flour
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. rosemary
- 2 tsp. thyme
- 1/2 Tbsp. basil
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
Chicken Pot Pie
- In a large stock pot, melt the butter and add in onions and mushrooms.  Allow to cook low and slow until browned. 
- Add in celery, peas, and carrots, cooking until tender. 
- Sprinkle flour over vegetables and lightly stir. 
- Add in remaining ingredients and bring broth to a rolling boil. 
- Drop noodles in one at a time to avoid clumping.  Continue to cook for 5-6 minutes. 
- Serve warm and spritz with lemon juice (optional).
